  	About 1798 he started to go to the West Indies as the overseer of a sugar plantation, but was never heard from and was supposed to have perished; but it seems probable that he survived a shipwreck, was cast on an island, and left a family, as some years ago the descendants of a Mr. King Grant in the West Indies claimed descent from him.
